 Christmas Parade 2016

The Cocke County Partnership/Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that applications are now available at the Chamber of Commerce office for the annual Newport Christmas Parade.  The parade will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2016 and will begin promptly at 3pm.  This year we ask that parade floats and participants embrace the theme of “Peace on Earth!”  Pick your favorite Christmas carol or story and use your imagination to portray it throughout the parade.

Parade staging will begin at 11:00am at the Cocke County High School parking lot (Chamber staff will call each entry prior to December 10 and let them know what their line-up time is).  The parade will begin promptly at 3:00pm. Our Grand Marshalls will be the “Peace Makers” - our City and County Police, Sheriff and Fire Departments. The route will start at Debbie’s Drive-In and will continue on Broadway heading east through downtown Newport and will finish at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.

Registration fees are as follows:

  • Floats:  $10
  • Floats accompanied by marchers (up to 15 marchers): $15
  • Vehicle accompanied by marchers (up to 15 marchers):  $10
  • Vehicle Only:  $5 per vehicle
  • Marchers Only:  $5 per group (up to 15 marchers per group)
  • Horses:  $5 per horse (Horses will be showcased at the end of the parade – no diapering necessary)

Deadline for entries will be December 1, 2016. Late entries (not in television script), will be accepted until Parade day with a $10 late fee.

Parade guidelines and applications are available at the Chamber of Commerce office which is located in the Newport Community Center.  Parade entry fees are to be submitted with the parade application.  Check or money order may be made payable to the Cocke County Partnership.  Credit Card payments are also accepted.

First Baptist Church of Newport will broadcast the parade live on Charter, Channel 192.  For those not able to attend, a rebroadcast can be seen later in the day.  In addition, the church will sell DVD copies of the parade.  If you would like to purchase a copy you can contact the church office at 423-623-3034.

“We look forward to celebrating this joyous time of year by facilitating this event for Cocke County,” said Chamber Director Lynn Ramsey. ”Our hope is that everyone will help us celebrate the season by supporting our community’s parade.  During the parade everyone will enjoy a showcase of bands, floats, marching units, antique cars and tractors, children’s groups, and clubs and organizations from all over Cocke County!  Whether you plan to be a participant or spectator we look forward to seeing you at the parade!”

Again, Deadline for entries will be December 1, 2016. Late entries (not in television script), will be accepted until Parade day with a $10 late fee.
